Silkscreen Printing
What is silkscreen printing craft?
Silkscreen printing, also known as screen printing, is a printing technique that involves the use of a mesh screen to transfer ink onto a substrate (such as fabric, paper, or plastic). The screen is first prepared by stretching a fine mesh over a frame and coating it with a light-sensitive emulsion. A stencil of the design is then created on the screen by exposing it to light, which hardens the emulsion and creates a stencil of the design. Ink is then poured onto the screen, and a squeegee is used to press the ink through the stencil and onto the substrate. This process can be repeated for multiple colors, allowing for the creation of multicolor designs. Silkscreen printing is a versatile and durable printing technique that is often used for printing T-shirts, posters, signs, and other promotional materials.

The main procedures of silkscreen printing
Silkscreen printing, also known as screen printing, is a printing technique that involves the use of a mesh screen to transfer ink onto a substrate. Here are the main procedures of silkscreen printing:
Design Preparation: The design that needs to be printed is first prepared on a computer or by hand.
Screen Preparation: A mesh screen is prepared by stretching a fine mesh over a frame. The mesh is then coated with a light-sensitive emulsion.
Image Exposure: The prepared design is printed onto a transparent film, which is then placed onto the coated mesh screen. The screen is then exposed to light, causing the emulsion to harden and create a stencil of the design on the screen.
Washout: The screen is then washed with water, removing the unexposed emulsion and leaving behind the stencil of the design.
Ink Preparation: Ink is mixed to the desired color and consistency.
Printing: The ink is poured onto the screen, which is then pressed onto the substrate (e.g. fabric, paper, plastic). The ink is forced through the stencil and onto the substrate using a squeegee.
Drying: The printed substrate is left to dry completely.
Curing: The printed substrate is then heated to cure the ink and ensure it adheres to the substrate.
Finishing: The printed substrate is trimmed, folded, or sewn to create the final product.
